At the young age of 4, my grandmother gave me a hammer and a bag of nails to keep me occupied when my mother, brother, and I lived with her while my father was completing his studies at Northwestern University. In the years to come, it was not uncommon for me to been seen with a hammer in my hand. I would do anything to hammer more nails into an old log that was next to my grandmother’s driveway. I guess that would be called the seed moment in my life of working with my hands and especially woodworking.
My formal studies started at age 13 with 7th-grade shop class. Between 7th and 12th grade I took 16 semesters of woodshop. I thank god I was a child of the ’80s when the trades were still valued and a kid could learn to work with his hands. Along with woodshop, I also took auto, metal shop, drafting, ceramics, and fine art. By my senior year of high school, I was the teacher’s aide in two periods of woodshop and had won several California State Fair prizes in Woodworking and Metalworking. I graduated high school with a master woodworkers certificate and two offers to be a journeyman cabinetmaker.
Life happens quickly and I found myself moving, working as an auto mechanic, and going to college where I studied Administration of Justice. I ultimately pursued a job in Law Enforcement and kept doing “side jobs” to pay for my ever-growing tool and equipment habit. Honing my skills and studies, I ultimately decided to get my contractor’s license. After the birth of my twins, we arrived at the conclusion that having three children under the age of three will be a little more expensive than my wife and had planned for. So a business was born, Aug 6th 2005, which happened to be my father’s birthday.
Since that day we have endured the crash of 2008, the passing of my beloved parents, and the end of an almost 29-year career in law enforcement. With the love and support of my family, I strive every day to create projects that exceed my client’s expectations. It is my goal to provide a product that encompasses the vision of design, functionality, and durability. Whether it be a one-off furniture piece or an entire kitchen of cabinets the goal is the same. Make each product to be the client’s vision, at a fair price, made by me with the most durable materials and finish available.
I hand-sketch every design to meet your needs and fit perfectly into your space.
